Eight-Second Ride Illustrated Poem
This illustrated poem below is my expression of Bulls and Bull Riders:
This is available in an 11″ x 15″ Parchment, unframed, unmatted form for $25.00 (U.S.), plus $10 for shipping and handling . This piece has been professionally illustrated. EIGHT- SECOND RIDE
Copyright 2011 by W. Foster Welborn
There was a rope in his hand
Since he learned how to walk.
A slow drawl rolled out
When he chose to talk.
Dust, wind, far-flung skies
Were his background roots.
Son of the West from his hat
Down to his boots.
He squinted wary eyes
Toward a large holding pen;
Mean bulls pawed the ground,
Waiting for him to try once again.
Cigarette clenched tightly
Between hard, drawn lips;
Excitement coursed down
Through his fingertips.
He’d been thrown many times
With a bone-jarring thud.
His rope-scarred hand trembled
As he hitched up his duds.
Tantalizing aroma
Wafted above crowded throes;
Smell of friend onions
Tickled his nose.
He’s been rodeo’n for
Many long years;
Suffered much pain and sweat,
Blood mixed with tears.
Calf roping and bull riding
Were part of his game,
As natural to him
As saying his name.
Tilting his coffee cup skyward,
He took a last pull,
Hoping against hope,
He’d draw a good bull.
He must ride for eight seconds
Atop a two-thousand-pound fury;
Referees would score them,
Both judge and jury.
The ever-watchful crowd
Might enjoy a real thrill
If he could just make the beast
Succumb to his will.
Every bone in his wiry body
Had been broken once or twice;
A ride without injury
Would surely be nice.
If he could hold onto his grip,
Just keep his seat,
He’d beat the eight-second clock.
Shucks what a feat!
When his number was called,
The fear he would hide.
He tightened his spurs
For a rip snortin’ ride.
The last words on his lips
Before they opened his chute,
“Stay up for eight seconds,
And I’ll buy some new boots!”

Actually, insofar as spam goes, http://www.wordpress.com (my host) puts all incoming messages into my spam folder. I open that to review the messages to either delete spam or put messages into the pending folder so I may respond to them. I do this frequently. Unfortunately, spam is out there. With havin so much written content do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright infringement?
My website has a lot of completely unique content I’ve either authored myself or
outsourced but it looks like a lot of it is popping it up all over the
web without my permission. Do you know any techniques to
help protect against content from being stolen?

Thank you for your comment. As to plagiarism and copyright violations, I can sympathize with you. However, the internet has no parameters. Once it is put out there, who knows where it goes or how? I personally welcome sharing because it is the highest form of praise. I just want to get some ideas out there so people can become more aware and begin to make different decisions based on new information and expanded awareness. As to copyright violations, you can submit your work to the U.S. Copyright office for a cost of $35 online. However, the only way one can prosecute is, after acceptance and a copyright is issued, one must pursue in U.S. District Court, with a lawyer at the cost of $$$$$$. You just have to ask yourself if it is worth the effort. Enjoy your day anyway. 🙂

When I originally left a comment I seem to have clicked on the -Notify
me when new comments are added- checkbox and now whenever a comment is added I recieve 4 emails with the same comment.
Perhaps there is a way you can remove me from that service?
