Spiritual Affinity – Relationships

According to Kahlil Gibran, Love is the offspring of spiritual affinity *. Unless that affinity is created in a moment, it will not be created in years or generations. It is, indeed, wrong to think that love can come from long companionship and persevering courtship.

It is, in fact, the spiritual affinity that creates companionship in the relationship. This encourages respect for each other, a deeper friendship, and a lifelong joy of each other’s presence. It also encourages communication (the ability to talk with each other in lieu of at each other) when problems arise. Mind Games and manipulation are foreign to it.

May you be blessed with spiritual affinity with your mate.

God’s blessings upon your journey!

* The definition of affinity is: “Close relationship; connection; a natural liking, esp. a mutual attraction.”

The Dancers

Through ancient shifting sands of time,

Two souls interlocked sublime,

Dancing in ecstasy to continuous unheard music,

Like sand falls endlessly through the hourglass of Time.

The Rainbow

THE RAINBOW

While traveling home from work on a cloudy day,
Traffic caused my car to stop, so I paused to pray.
I was tired, and my mind was on overload,
But my spirit overruled my mind there upon the road.

Have you ever sensed His Presence and felt you’re not alone?
You feel free, without burden,
Because your sins have taken wings and flown.
Freedom at last, and the key word here is free!

When I opened my eyes, the traffic thinned, and the sun came out.
I experienced joy and wanted to shout.
The Promise was, is, and will never die:
Behold a beautiful rainbow, painted in the sky.

Not just any rainbow, I would have you understand,
For it soothed my mind and calmed my nerves
While refreshing my faith.
This beautiful rainbow was painted by my Master’s Hand.

It was, is, and shall always be,
Set against a cloud-filled sky:
A marvel to behold for all wondering eyes to see,
Until the sands of time through the hour glass run,
It’s there for you and me.

Controversy

Controversy, like all good spices,

Will help sparkle conversation…

Like spices in the soup brings

Our taste bud’s sensation.

We’ve learned that too much controversy,

Even from the days of old,

Like too much spice spoils the soup,

Excess leaves readers angry, confused, and cold.

Ole Father Time

Once again, Ole Father Time

Has harvested yet another year.

His sickle sweeps clear the old calendar,

And another allotted time does appear.

With renewed high hopes and aspirations,

We again march toward our goal.

Determined to keep our resolutions,

We assume our newly-formed role.

Hoisting our banners high,

The new challenges we gladly accept.

Through this new time period,

We’ll strive to be adept.

Should we fail or falter,

One thing is crystal clear,

Ole Father Time waits patiently,

Honing his sickle to reap another year.

Worry!

Worry not about today,

Nor of tomorrow.

For in another day,

Short-lived will be your sorrow.

Time blessed both are

As history they will be,

Presenting another dilemma

For your mind to see.

As you concern yourself of the morrow,

And contemplate the day,

You will see that tomorrow never arrives

Because it becomes Today!

From a song on “Fiddler on the Roof”

“Sunrise, sunset, swiftly fly the years…

One season following another,

Laden with happiness and tears.”

Anniversary of U.S.S. Arizona

After standing on the decks of the memorial for the U.S.S. Arizona,

I wrote this poem to honor our fallen comrades on the

50th Anniversary of that day, December 7, 1991.

It is included in my book, Autumn Leaves.

We came to pay you tribute,

O’er encrusted decks we stood.

And because you are deserving,

We rendered as we could.

Oil seeps up to surface light,

Rainbowed tears of those below,

Doomed forever to silence

Those many long years ago.

“Forget me not,” you whisper.

“Perish the thought,” say I.

“Though you sleep beneath the sea,

Your memory shall not die!”

“Remember Pearl! Remember Pearl!”

Soon became our national cry.

Our country rose in anger

On a vengeance trail to fly.

We shed our tears; we shed our blood.

War took an awesome toll.

Still we fought on to victory

While you topped our “Honor Roll.”

So rest in peace, fellow comrades,

The victory has been won.

We’ll not forget the price you paid

Seven December, Nineteen Forty-One.

Note: Oil still seeps out of the hull of the U.S.S. Arizona, creating rainbows on the water above it.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Our warmest wishes for you is to have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

It is a day to watch parades on the television, probably overeat from a heavily laden table (if you are lucky), take a nap, enjoy the companionship of loved ones and friends, or perhaps even to just relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Whatever your day consists of, we hope that you take the time to list all of the blessings which fill your life. Some are obvious, and others are not. Some you think of frequently, while others pass you by without your noticing. Some do not get any of your attention at all until something negative impacts it. Sometimes, the negative takes it away for a long time, if not forever.

Thanksgiving has always been a day for doing exactly that: Change your focus from what you do not have and are striving for to what you already possess. It does not matter if it is a nickel when you need it, or lots of cash at the right time.

Just notice: Can you walk? Can you talk? Can you sing? Can you use your hands freely? Do you have your health? Are you working your way through a health challenge? Can you eat whatever you like? Can you see? Can you hear? What beauty surrounds you?

There are so many people who do not have those blessings for they are either unable to do them for whatever reason or their life situation prohibits/inhibits it.

Life is made up of a lot of simple things which pass us by like a ship in the night if one does not take time to focus on them. We miss many blessings just because we do not see them. Look at your surroundings to see the beauty, life, and laughter that are there – no matter how small or insignificant it may appear. Just know that what you bless increases.

Gather your loved ones and friends, be they near or far, into your heart and thoughts. Bless them one and all.

How about you? What do you choose to focus on today?

God’s blessings upon your journey!

My Epitaph

Gaze upon this empty shell

But shed no tear

For it served me well.

There were many things

It couldn’t do

So I’ve slipped it off

Like a well-worn shoe.

When I wore it,

There was pain…

It got burned by the sun

And soaked by the rain.

When it got old,

It couldn’t run

Or hop and skip

Or dance in fun.

Chairs and beds

Had to be arranged

To keep it warm

When the weather changed.

Its hair thinned out,

And its eyes grew dim…

A burst of energy was

But a dreamy whim.

The body grew wrinkled,

But the brain increased.

Knowledge and wisdom expanded

As mobility ceased.

Life’s run is over now.

The spirit seeks a better place.

Time for the old body to rest,

But, wow, what a race!

The Only Failure

The only failure in life is to not attempt to begin again, so try again and do not be afraid to fail, again.

Nature renews herself year after year.

Are we humans not endowed with a Can Do Spirit?

Think about it: Since when did you become so timid and afraid to choose to take a risk in life and love?
