Pisces

This comes from Autumn Leaves:

Pisces people grab a shooting star

And hold on tight,

Living, working, playing, and loving

With all their might.

On fire with exuberance of love and life,

And, like the salmon

On their upstream struggle,

They live, spawn, and die.

Decay

This thought comes from Autumn Leaves:

Outstanding is simply good, yet no one’s upset or mad.

Good is mediocre, and mediocre is simply bad.

High aspirations, in reality, are goals set low —

Meaningless once achieved, and so the story goes.

Praise Him

This poem comes from Autumn Leaves:

When your heart troubles you, remember.

When you feel sad or lonely, remember.

When you need a true friend, remember.

When you are very heavy laden, remember.

Remember who came to give you rest.

Remember who gives you life forever.

Remember who died upon the cross for you.

Remember who shed His blood for our sins.

When you need direction and guidance, ask.

When you need help and healing, ask.

When you feel lost and need repentance, ask.

When you are faced with any problem, ask.

Ask and the way will be made straight.

Ask and the door will be opened.

Ask and it will be given willingly.

Ask and life will be given abundantly.

For the daily sunlight you walk in, praise Him.

For the food which nourishes your strength, praise Him.

For the sleep which renews you each morning, praise Him.

Praise Him in all things for thrice Holy is His Name.

Praise Him for He alone is found worthy.

Praise Him for He is exalted in Heaven and Earth.

Praise Him for all Honor and Glory as His forever and ever.

Amen

New Year Reflections

My wish for each of you is that you find whatever it is that you seek and truly cherish that which you find in the New Year.

Many of us become ensnared by the stresses, demands, ambitions, and desires in this pressing crucible of life.

The sands in our own hourglasses of life continue falling as another year goes by the wayside. I hope it was a good one for each of you.

Remember, during the hustle and bustle, the yuddy-yuddy/yammer-yammer, and excitement as a New Year begins, take a moment to reflect upon this awesome thing we call Life.

Little scenes come flooding back through the eyes of my mind: The wonder on a child’s face, a rainbow, or a bird in flight. It is the little things that ultimately make up each day. Do you catch the idea?

My New Year’s wish for you is that you each live as long as you want and want for nothing as long as you live.

Happy New Year, Everyone!

Friends

Friends are like two-way radios —

They send, I receive —

I send, they receive.

We are tuned to the same frequency or wave length

in the philosophy of Life.

Seek

This poem comes from Autumn Leaves:

Seek not for that which is not,

Nor ever was.

Follow not after lies

Or man-made cause.

Seek out truth and

“Peace be still.”

Let your heart and soul

Be filled.

Seek for that which was

And still is.

Love and Life  —

Both are His.

More precious than the Rubaiyat

of Omar Khayyam.

Seek and find the one

And only true “I AM.”

The Cowboy

This poem comes from Autumn Leaves:

At the age of sixteen,

He was tall, hard and lean

As he began his long-dreamed-of quest.

On an old swayback nag,

He’d push, pull or drag.

He followed the setting sun west.

By a lightning-bolt chance,

He found work on a ranch

Where he grew into a man.

He worked hard every day

For very little pay,

But always he rode for the brand.

He worked for thirty and found,

As he glanced around town,

And strolled into the Lady Luck Saloon.

He ordered Rot-Gut-Red,

You know the fiery kind

That has to be sipped from a spoon.

When he was right,

He wouldn’t back down,

Never a question of budgin’.

If a man disagreed,

He could go for his gun —

Old Sam Colt would do the judgin’!

He learned to live by his word

As he helped round up the herd —

A cowboy’s life is sure tough!

He learned about whiskey,

Women and cards  —

Why, he even learned to dip snuff!

On a north-bound trail,

Headed towards Kansas rail,

They sweated and worked without rest.

The deck was stacked

When the redskins attacked,

And he heard their loud, piercing yells.

O’er noise of bawling cattle,

Came sounds of the battle.

He clutched an arrow buried deep in his chest.

They found a six-gun by his hand,

His blood mixed with the land —

His dying words, “Tell ’em I done my best!”

Where the buffalo roam,

The young cowboy makes home,

A cross by a small bubbling stream.

He’s rode his last hoss,

And he’s roped his last steer,

But he’s fulfilled both his quest and dream!

Together At Last

This poem comes from Autumn Leaves:

We’ve traveled many miles,

Both you and I,

Always searching

For when and why.

Our pathways meandered

In different directions,

Overcoming many obstacles,

Mixed with objections.

Dark clouds and emotions

Fulfilled our days,

As we struggled along

Our own separate ways.

The hunger never died,

Instead it actually grew,

Propelling us forward

As life turned its screw.

Let others hoot and moan

Their pitiful dirge,

Because, by mere chance,

Our pathways did merge.

Together we stand

As a powerful shield,

Radiating sunshine’s rays

Which we both wield.

What’s mine is yours;

What’s yours is mine.

We know “who” we are;

Let the others mark time.

Let’s not say forever,

Who can fathom that deep?

Today is enough…

Forever ours to keep.

Random Thoughts

This poem comes from Autumn Leaves:

Oh, Merry Go Round of life,

Treadmill of my dreams,

Concrete jungle,

Polluted Streams.

High-rise buildings blot out the sun,

Smog-filled air,

Slum sections teeming decay

And suppressed life, despair.

A question, urgently stirring

About wings spread and whirring.

Freedom to move in uncluttered space —

Tiny forms darting and blurring.

Will the swallows care to come back to Capistrano?

The Path

This poem comes from Autumn Leaves:

A son of the dirt since my birth,

I look back without rancor or mirth,

And — I remember.

Polished words did not pass my lips,

Nor fine clothes touch my fingertips,

And — I remember.

Without inheritance in the land,

Through struggles and hunger, I grew into a man,

And  — I remember.

Beaten but never bowed,

In the School of Hard Knocks I was endowed,

And — I remember.

Wealth and power were never my goal.

I wanted water for thirst, food for my soul,

And — it happened.

No longer hungry or thirsty, I’m fed and gird.

I’m finding the answers, written in the Word,

And — I won’t forget.

I’ve found the path that’ll take me home,

And I’ll go in peace, remembering,

As I say, “Shalom!”
